The Bath House Cultural Center and the White Rock Lake Museum are seeking artwork in small scale for the upcoming exhibition, “The Lady.” The exhibition, inspired by the old myth of the Lady of White Rock Lake, will run from October 15, 2011 to January 28, 2012.
ABOUT THE LEGEND OF THE LADY OF THE LAKE
The following is a version of the Lady of the Lake tale. Artists, however, may find it helpful to read other accounts of the story by searching the story online or by consulting with others who have heard the legend.
“A well-known White Rock Lake legend is the story of the Lady of the Lake. According to the story, the ghost of a young woman appears at night, dripping wet in eveningwear. A car passes along the road circling the lake stops when the young woman tells the driver she has had an accident and needs to get home. The driver takes the woman to the address given, and when the driver arrives, the girl is gone, leaving only a waterlogged seat. The driver then learns after knocking on the door of the house that the young woman died by drowning when she fell out of a boat on the lake at night many years ago.”

New Artist Open Call Oxide Gallery Denton TExas
We are looking for new artists working in all mediums and genres to invite to show
with us in our Main Shows. Our Main Shows are up for 4 month and consist of an eclectic
mix of artwork created by our invited artists.
This is not for beginners or occasional hobbyist,
this is for professional and aspiring artists
who are 18 yrs old or older.
We are looking for artists who already have a body of work to select from, are constantly
expanding their portfolio, and are looking for a gallery to show with on a regular basis.
If you are already one of our invited Main Show Artists, you do not need to attend this
event unless you are working in a totally new medium or style
and wish to have it considered by the jury.
If you wish to be considered for invitation to show in our Main Show please bring in 3 pieces of your artwork that you feel best represent you and your personal style. At the Artist Open Calls we need to see your actual artwork, not your portfolios or copies. Photography is not required to be framed for this Open Call, but must be properly printed using good photo paper. We do not show photography printed on canvas so please bring only photography printed on good photography paper.
You will also need to provide us with the EXACT price you will be asking for those pieces of
artwork if they are chosen for consignment in the gallery. You must think about and set
your asking price prior to going before the jury. If you do not know what you expect to ask for your artwork then we can not properly evaluate your work. Your sale price is part of the jury's decision making process and is expected not to be increased when it comes time to fill out formal contracts without discussing possible changes with us first.
Remember, the gallery receives 40% commission of the sale price you list, so take that into
account when pricing your artwork.
When you arrive we will provide you with paperwork to fill out with your personal
contact information and information about the 3 pieces of artwork you are showing us.
Your artwork will be reviewed by the guest jury and you will be asked questions about your artwork, then we will let you take your artwork back with you. This process usually takes about 10 minutes per person. This entire process can run long so please be prepared to be patient. We will see artists on a first come basis only. Please be professional and do not ask for special treatment,
everyone in attendance is equally important to us.
We will inform artists of the jury's recommendations with in a week of the Open Call. As we prepare to see artwork for next upcoming Main Show we will contact you and appointments
with us in our Main Shows. Our Main Shows are up for 4 month and consist of an eclectic

People carry a feeling that everything that befalls them is happenstance, an accident of fate. For if things happen by "coincidence", they refuse to see the Guiding Hand of God.

HOTEL ZAZA’S ART HOUSE & SOCIAL GALLERY TO HOST ART SHOW ENTITLED “WET”
Three Artists from Turner Carroll Gallery to Show “Water-Inspired” Artwork
DALLAS (May 2, 2011) – Continuing their partnership, Hotel ZaZa has announced its third collaboration with Turner Carroll Gallery and Art Advisors to bring the next show to the Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery. The show is titled “Wet” and will feature new works by painters Eric Zener and Conrad Kern, as well as sculpture by Gino Miles. The exhibition featuring water-themed works of art will be open beginning May 18 and running through August 30, 2011.
The Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery, located at 2400 McKinney Avenue, will be open to the public Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For private showings by appointment, please call (214) 912-7143.
“After the success of the last two shows by Turner Carroll, we are excited to see what the next show brings,” said Benji Homsey, president of Z Resorts Management and Development, LLC. “This partnership has proved to be an excellent use of the space in the Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery. This event space has many uses, but hosting curated exhibitions by well-known artists definitely aligns with our vision for this creative extension to the hotel.”
Californian artist Eric Zener's paintings portray his fascination with water. Sunbathers, swimmers, children playing in the water, and the movement of the water itself, upon impact, are consistent Zener themes. The concepts of water as life-giving force, the place of first home, and as an element of energy are compelling aspects which preoccupy Zener.
“I use our relationship with water, nature and each other as a metaphor for transformation, refuge and renewal," said Zener.
Zener's paintings are the subject of a new, 250-page monograph. He will be present at the opening reception at the Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery to sign the limited edition monographs. His paintings are also featured in the current exhibition at the Long Beach Museum of Art in California. Zener’s work has been exhibited internationally in Australia, Japan and Spain and is included in numerous corporate, private and museum collections. His work has been featured in the Robb Report, Juxtapoz, Art & Antiques, Travel & Leisure, New American Paintings, American Art Collector, New York Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle and ArtNews Magazine.
Conrad Kern and Gino Miles are New Mexico artists. Kern's color field paintings and Miles' brilliantly colored sculptures both glisten with their layers of color and sheen. Miles' sculptures have been exhibited internationally and are in many important private collections in Italy, where Miles lived and taught for several years. Both Kern’s and Miles' works have been exhibited throughout the U.S., and Turner Carroll Gallery has coordinated large-scale public and privately commissioned works by each of these artists.
The Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery is available for events such as art exhibits, business meetings, social events and many more. Private events may be scheduled for 16 to 150 guests. Through this venue, Hotel ZaZa is able to showcase its full-service hotel and catering services, while also offering creative freedom to the guest. For more information, or to book a meeting or event, please call (214) 468-8399 or visit hotelzazadallas.com.
For more information on purchasing the artists’ works, please contact Tonya Turner Carroll at the Turner Carroll Gallery at (505) 986-9800 or by email at tcgallery@aol.com.

Artist Opportunity – Call for an Outdoor Contemporary Sculpture
I'm looking for a striking contemporary/modern outdoor sculpture about 6 to 7 feet high, to go on a small island in the middle of a pool at private residence. It will be outdoors and will be surrounded by water, so naturally must be able to handle the elements. They will be less interested in figurative work. A commission for the work may be possible.

Call for Entries - New Texas Talent XVIII Submission Deadline June 3 - Exhibition Opens August 13, 2011
Conceived in 1994, New Texas Talent is designed to introduce and promote emerging visual artists in the commercial market. Each year hundreds of images are submitted for review by a gallery selected juror. The juror then independently selects artists to participate in the New Texas Talent exhibition. Through their participation in the show, some artists have been offered representation by galleries and/or have been extended invitations for inclusion in future exhibitions. The exhibition and its participants have also received media exposure in such publications as D Magazine, The Dallas Morning News, The Observer and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram
About the Juror: As Director of Exhibitions for the Irving Arts Center, Ms. Inman is responsible for all aspects of the visual arts programming and permanent collection for the center's four galleries and Sculpture Garden. In addition to the supervision of annual community programming and exhibitions of student artwork, Ms. Inman has curated/organized over 200 original and touring exhibitions that have contributed to the IAC's growing regional and national reputation as a unique and exciting venue for the visual arts. In 2007, the Irving Arts Center became an official Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. This designation has opened the door to long term loan of two monumental sculptures by Rueben Nakian from the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington D.C. that are on display in the IAC's Sculpture Garden, along with other loans and special exhibitions planned for the future enjoyment of local residents and visitor.
