Hi Sonia!
Figuring you *might* have the answer to my question :)
Do you know of Dacia Gallery is a Gallery to keep away from? Hear anything good or bad about them?
Thanks!
Claudia
I received this letter via email yesterday. I tell you, its hard to be an artist these days with all the scammy type things out there. I took a look at their website, and as nice as it was they had a call for an upcoming exhibition with a $35 dollar entry fee. This is not uncommon, they have a juror-- albeit one that didn't look that credentialed. What really bothered me was a call that was right below it that was for a solo show. This call also charged a $35 fee. This little piece of info tipped me off that this was a vanity gallery. It is also a gallery that specialized in emerging artists (read easy to fool).
Artists, do not pay for solo shows, group shows, etc... Unless you are in a collective of some sort then this is ok, but it is not ok in a gallery. Second, when entering shows with fees, make sure the juror is reputable, not just anyone.
I hope you artists are really careful when you are entering shows. There are lots of galleries out there that will take your money and will give you nothing in return. If you have a question you can send it to me and I will look into it, if I am uncertain I will dig more until I find out the right info.
Happy Art Making!

Today Im Tired
So I probably wont post too much. One of my good friends is having surgery to remove a cancer from her Thyroid, so I will be heading to the hospital. The only good part of thyroid cancer is that it is usually localized. :/
I watched a great movie last night too by the way. It was called Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, it was really really interesting. I highly recommend anyone with an autoimmune disorder watch this. Its a good idea for everyone. I will write more on it when I get home. I will also post more calls and more interviews.
For now I will leave you with a little Simon and Garfunkel-- because I love it!

I'm tired-- back from Austin
My head kind of hurts and I'm sleepy. I've been in the car most of the day and now I'm home and my dog, who has just had a bath, is smelling like farts and tuna-- uggh. So annoying! I basically am sitting here because I'm too tired to go to bed.
I'm glad to be home though, I went to Austin because my Hub had a conference-- it was hot as fucko and I missed a group show that my work was in-- in Dallas. That has made me kinda depressed-- but ehh-- what to do...
Since it was so hot all we could really do was eat- I ate and ate. Damn now she's itching (pulls hair out). I think I might be so tired because I'm in a food coma. I can't eat that much, so most nights I skipped dinner-- I still feel like I've been supersized.
I saw cool shit in Austin-- they don't call that place weird for nothing! If you haven't been you should go. If it had have been cooler I would have found more art for you.
Dude on the road

This looks like a provocation...

Hmmm!

Bubble tea-- again because it was good.

Graffiti on graffiti

Wtf?

Faile Art

Man womans?

Raw Austin Art and Music Events
Looking for some art and some fun? Try a Raw Austin event. Live music, painting and generally a good vibe. I stopped in for a while at one in the Belmont on 6th. Artists were painting, people were boozing and the dj was spinning.

Jeremiah the Innocent Austin Texas Daniel Johnston
Daniel Johnston
His artwork is shown in galleries such as in London's Aquarium Gallery and New York's Clementine Gallery. both in 2006, and the 2008 Liverpool Biennial. Currently his work is being exhibited as "The Museum of Love" at Verge Gallery in Sacramento, California.
In 1993 Johnston was commissioned to paint a mural of the Hi, How Are You? frog (also known as "Jeremiah the Innocent") from his 1983 album cover on the side of the Sound Exchange record store located on the corner of 21st and Guadalupe in Austin, Texas (the "Drag").[16] At the time, the frog image had recently become nationally recognized from media images of Kurt Cobain wearing a "Hi, How Are You?" t-shirt during Nirvana's promotion of their 1991 album Nevermind.[17] In 2004 locals successfully endeavored to preserve the image when the building changed ownership to a Baja Fresh restaurant and more recently to a sushi restaurant called Crave.[18] In Spring 2008, a Jeremiah the Innocent collectible figurine was released in limited runs of four different colors.[19]
As of June 2010, a biopic about Johnston's life featuring Gabriel Sunday of My Suicide is in production.[20]

Arty Shit
On the road-- the hub was hungry so we had to stop. Where else do you go but DQ? I find the place only fit for the grungiest of hangovers, but whatever-- I wasn't eating...
I was stricken from the moment I went in by the decor-- this was over the top even for Dairy Queen. Maybe I don't get out enough but I've never seen this kind of communal flower fountain dining anywhere else.
I was, am-- in awe!

Check out the chick-- I don't think she can believe it either.
On to food-- belch!

Is this stuff ok? I mean really... I'm not going to lie, I had a bite-- it was good. What kind of low calibre taste buds I have are more than apparent now-- I'm, I'm -- hell-- I'm vato (with manners).
What kind of facilities are in a fine dining establishment like this you ask---->
Here you go-- here's the proper. Yes proper.

So from this I go to the fine, the holy, the temple of foods, whole foods. It's almost too dirty to have in the same post, like going from a sleazy club to a restaurant with a sommelier. It doesn't jive-- but hey, I won't complain.

Gelato- enough said.

Avocado gelato-- illegal?

No, stop! I beg you!

And! The beer cooler. The shame of not taking it all was so great, I'm hardly forming words still.

And if all else fails -- you get the chicken killer-- because you are a chicken, you are not worthy and you must be slaughtered in THIS way!

I'm so tired
I went to bed late, and was woken up too early. Not a good way to start my day. The bed is Soft and warm, and my eyes feel heavy. Maybe if I try I can get back to sleep and end this low throb in my skull. I can forget yoga today-- and really I want to go out and eat pancakes and eggs. Mmm
But I lay here.
Maybe it will be cooler out today-- or even rain... I heard it was raining in Dallas.
Hope your day is good---> S
