LHUCA, 511 Avenue K, will feature “Exiles and Infidels” by Cirkit of Mythos, a group exhibition coordinated by Ryder Richards in the Lott Gallery. The work questions of identity within an American-centric system of symbols, often appropriating pop culture imagery and techniques of media espionage, to create a contemporary mythology. The art takes the form of mixed media, installations, digitally altered photography, and painting and drawing. Please join us in the Lott Gallery during the First Friday Art Trail July 2, 2010 from 6-9 p.m.

Cirkit of Mythos is a collaborative art group based in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area comprised of Steve Cruz, Omar Hernandez, Eddy Rawlinson, and Jason Reynaga. Sharing respect for each other’s individual mythologies, the four artists have found commonalities in their processes as well as their bodies of work. Combining biting, witty, and politically-charged images with lush, beautiful and fun materials, the diversity of their work strengthens their conceptual communication.

Ryder Richards, as part of the Underwood Center’s Regional Arts program, coordinated the exhibit. Richards comments “Cirkit of Mythos has formed a small, unique community within a large metropolitan center. The work created by the group members contains a rich, diverse narrative, stating their worldview while remaining open to interpretation and sensitive to philosophical quandaries.”

About the artists:

Infamous artist Steve Cruz is known for his insurgent and raucous approach to art. His work addresses issues of political correctness, sex, confused genders, ethnicity and sin. Mr.Cruz has managed to weasel his way into shows ranging from lowbrow bars to hightone galleries in such diverse locales as Chicago, Little Rock, Houston, Austin, El Paso and Waco. Currently he is engaged in the 7th Street Mural Project for the Historic North Oak Cliff Neighborhood of Dallas seeking to fill any blank wall with art. He is also owner/operator of Mighty Fine Arts Gallery, also in Oak Cliff.

Bridging new technology with traditional collage process, Omar Hernandez absorbs images of the world around him, both personal and cultural to create and recreate multi-layered and multi-dimensional mixed media works. Hernandez is the Art Department Coordinator and a full-time faculty member at El Centro College in Dallas.
Eddy Rawlinson’s sculptural work maintains the confrontational irreverence of his colorful and relentless mixed media paintings. Rawlinson is the Art Gallery Director at El Centro College.

Jason Reynaga creates installations using color-rich, multi-dimensional surfaces and images of recognizable super heroes and video games to create a perfect balance between glossy, glittery and beautiful materials and dark, aggressive and menacing content. Reynaga is the Design Division Director at Wade College in Dallas.
