About the Artists:
Melanie Lewallen
Melanie graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BFA in studio art. Although her art training heavily favored 3-dimensional disciplines, the artist's current work has manifested itself into a kind of illustrative minimalism. Melanie uses expansive areas of spray painted color, stenciled pattern and contour line to create her subject matter and the environments they dwell within. This method of drawing is one the artist developed in college. "In my drawing classes we'd be doing long nude studies in charcoal...after the first hour I'd get bored and get out my India ink and brush or a marker and start drawing my classmates as they worked - quick line-drawn figure studies. These unassigned drawings were ultimately the ones given the most attention at critique. Working this way came naturally to me. I fell in love with the visual flow these lines created." The artist currently lives in the Dallas area where she works as a graphic designer and photographer.
Laura Doughtie
Laura was born in Dallas, TX in 1985. She studied art and art history at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in 2007. Shortly after she moved back to Dallas to work for Light and Sie as an art gallery assistant all the while constantly evolving her own art. Compulsively driven to put pen to paper she finds comfort in line and repetition. Forms and patterns emerge inspired by structures inherently found in nature.
Loran Thrasher
Loran was born in Arlington Texas on January 12, 1977.
He graduated from the University of North Texas with a BFA in Drawing and Painting.
