HOTEL ZAZA’S ART HOUSE & SOCIAL GALLERY TO HOST ART SHOW ENTITLED “WEST COAST WOMEN” Dallas Texas

Versatile Event Space Will Feature Three San Francisco Bay Area
Female Artists Represented by Turner Carroll Gallery

DALLAS (August 31, 2011) – The Stay ZaZa Art House and Social Gallery continues to be an event space where creative dreams and possibilities are endless with guests able to entertain amidst works of art presented ZaZa-style in this unique and creative extension of the hotel.

The Stay ZaZa Art House and Social Gallery, located next to Hotel ZaZa on the corner of McKinney Avenue and Leonard Streets, is available for events such as art exhibits, business meetings, social events, and many more. Private events may be scheduled for sixteen to 150 guests. Through this venue, Hotel ZaZa is able to showcase its full-service hotel and catering services, while also offering creative freedom to the guest.

Continuing their partnership, Hotel ZaZa has announced its fourth collaboration with Turner Carroll Gallery and Art Advisors to bring the next show to the Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery. The show titled “West Coast Women” will feature new and recent works by San Francisco Bay Area female artists Deborah Oropallo, Inez Storer and Jenny Honnert Abell.  The exhibition opens September 14 and continues through October 20, 2011.

“After the success of the last three shows by Turner Carroll, we are excited to see what the next show brings,” said Benji Homsey, President of Z Resorts Management and Development, LLC.  “The Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery has many uses, but hosting curated exhibitions by national artists definitely aligns with our vision for this creative extension to the hotel.”

“We are surrounded by a creative community as neighbors of the Dallas Arts District.  This is Hotel ZaZa’s opportunity to increase our presence in the visual arts scene,” said Homsey. “The Stay ZaZa Art House and Social Gallery will bring ZaZa-style to a new level, providing a venue for any type of event guests can dream up and customizing each and every aspect.”

Deborah Oropallo is one of the most important photographic artists working today. Often driven by an interest in uniforms, she creates prints on aluminum that blend contemporary female costumes with historically significant male portraits or other forms of masculine imagery.  This show will feature her work in a variety of mediums- prints on paper, prints on aluminum as well as cotton jacquard tapestry.  Her work has been exhibited in such places as the de Young Museum in San Francisco and the Whitney Museum of American Art.  In addition, Oropallo’s work is included in several public collections, such as those of the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Inez Storer’s paintings are both charming and mysterious in nature due to Storer’s use of collage with found objects. Her work engages the viewer in a sort of "magical realism," urging the viewer to imagine the stories behind the canvas.  Storer's work has been exhibited in the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.  Additionally, her paintings have been included in the permanent collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Oakland Museum of California, the Lannan Museum in Fort Worth, the San Jose Museum of Art as well as the de Saisset Museum at Santa Clara University.

Jenny Honnert Abell creates mixed media pieces, such as book covers and works on paper or panel, embellished with natural depictions of birds and trees.  Abell’s work has been included in numerous art fairs, such as Art Chicago and Art Miami, and in many solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums around the country, including the Berkley Art Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santa Rosa.

The Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery, located at 2400 McKinney Avenue, will be open to the public Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For private showings by appointment, or for more information and images, please contact Lizzie Herbert at the Turner Carroll Gallery at 214-912-7143 or by email at lherbert@turnercarrollgallery.com.

MTV Staying Alive Foundation Presents ‘MTV RE:DEFINE’

A benefit art exhibition and auction featuring 30 internationally acclaimed artists including Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin to mark 30 years of AIDS

New York, London - July 25, 2011 – The MTV Staying Alive Foundation today announced a dynamic new project to mark the 30th anniversary of the discovery of the AIDS virus.

Hosted at the Goss-Michael Foundation in Dallas and curated by The Future Tense, MTV RE:DEFINE will bring together original works, many specially commissioned for the project, from a bold roster of 30 of the world’s most exciting contemporary artists, photographers and sculptors, including key emerging talents. All 30 pieces will be auctioned, with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, which encourages, energizes and empowers young people who are involved in HIV and AIDS awareness, education and prevention campaigns.

Since launching in 1981, MTV has worked with some of the most influential figures in contemporary art including Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. For MTV RE:DEFINE, project curators The Future Tense have sourced and commissioned an eclectic selection of original artworks from both established and emerging artists, including Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Gérard Rancinan, Shepard Fairey and Katrin Fridriks.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday, September 16th and will culminate in a VIP reception on Saturday, September 24th during which all 30 works will feature in a live auction event in support of the Staying Alive Foundation. For those unable to attend the event, absentee bids will also be accepted including via telephone – please visit www.mtvredefine.com for more information on how to bid.

Georgia Arnold, Executive Director of the Staying Alive Foundation said, “MTV has always naturally partnered with cutting edge talent and artists, and I’m delighted that we are doing so on this occasion to support the work of the Staying Alive Foundation. Each one of the 30 pieces of art represents a year since the discovery of AIDS and the proceeds from each work will make a huge contribution to empowering young people engaged in fighting the stigma, spread and threat of the epidemic 30 years on. I want to thank each and every artist for their enormous generosity.”

Ed Bartlett, founder of The Future Tense said, “Our aim with this project was to bring together a body of work that we felt resonated with both the ‘RE:DEFINE’ high concept, but also with our interpretation of the past, present and future ‘MTV Generation’ artists. Throughout the project each artist has truly engaged with these ideals, in many cases commissioning brand new work for the show, and we believe the resulting exhibition will speak for itself.”

The VIP reception will feature a live music performance (talent to be announced soon), and the event will be complemented by a full catalogue production, plus support from a range of premium sponsors, including Moët & Chandon, The Dallas Morning News and Neiman Marcus.

Full details of the event can be found on the official website, www.mtvredefine.com where details of the remaining 25 artists will be revealed in groups of 5 each Monday at midday EST over the next five weeks. Project updates can also be followed in real-time on Twitter via @mtvredefine and Facebook at www.facebook.com/mtvredefine.

Dallas Art: Oak Cliff Artist, Christopher Bingham to open in “Art with a View at BarBelmont,”

"Texas,"gouache, watercolor on paper,
by Christopher Bingham

Artist’s reception at the Belmont Hotel on Wednesday September 7, 2011, from 6-9pm.  Show continues through October 19, 2011.

Please join Norwood Flynn Gallery for an artist’s reception for Christopher Bingham in Art with a View at BarBelmont in the historic, retro-chic Belmont Hotel, Wednesday, September 7, 2011, from 6-9pm.

The artwork of Chris is perfect for this venue, since several of his paintings depict neon signage, some of them, “dinosaurs of art, close to extinction,” and some already only memories, “ a glimpse of the glory days,…capturing the essence of the seedy motels and smoke filled rooms” of the past.  Bingham, a 2011 finalist for the Hunting Prize, has shown at Norwood Flynn Gallery since 2009. Last August, his work was featured with 16 other artists from Oak Cliff in a show at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center.

The Belmont Hotel is located at 901 Fort Worth Avenue, Dallas, Texas.  Visit their website at www.belmontdallas.com.

All shows are free and open to the public.  The public may call 214-351-3318 or visit www.norwoodflynngallery.com for information.

Willie Baronet – Busty Naked Girls Oil Wrestling: from homeless signs to pornographic spam – my MFA journey @williebaronet Dallas Texas Art

After selling my ad agency in 2006 I got an MFA in Arts and Technology at UTD. In the process my long held beliefs about art were deconstructed. I soon found myself creating art using my collection of homeless signs, and taking photographs of scars, nipples, bellybuttons, hairballs and taillights. In my final art show I videotaped the mouths of over 90 women (in 10 languages) reading vile, bizarre pornographic spam. “Havana Ginger gets big fat meat cigar to suck on.” I mean, really.

THE GOSS-MICHAEL FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES ANNUAL STUDENT ART CONTEST WINNERS

Mansfield's Legacy High School Students Win Five Awards

DALLAS (June 1, 2011) As part of its effort to support and encourage the artistic experience of students in Dallas/Fort Worth and the surrounding area, The Goss-Michael Foundation has announced the winners of the fifth annual Goss-Michael Foundation Student Art Contest, “Saturate”.

Public and private high school students from the greater Dallas, Fort Worth and surrounding areas participated in this year’s competition which required students to explore and experiment with the chroma of color through photography, drawing, painting and mixed media.  Contestants were free to choose their own subject matter but were required to create a work of art that illustrated the progression of color from high to low saturation.

Peter Doroshenko, Director of the Dallas Contemporary, was the guest judge for the contest and selected five winners in the categories of photography, painting, mixed media, drawing and best in show.  At an award reception, Joyce Goss, Executive Director, The Goss-Michael Foundation, awarded a $400 U.S. Savings Bond to four students: Ms. Madison Ward, Photography; Ms. Elena Chudoba, Painting; Ms. Zelda Valverde, Mixed Media; and Ms. Andi Redman, Drawing.

Best in Show was awarded to Ms. Kathe Fishburn who received a $650 U.S. Savings Bond.  Kathe is currently a senior at Mansfield Legacy High School where she is enrolled in advanced art photography, a member of Art Club, Treasurer of Anime Club and Vice President of the League of Acceptance, a club devoted to promoting tolerance and acceptance of all people.  In past years she has taken part in ballet and theater, both onstage and off, even participating in UIL Theatrical Design for costume.  Next year she plans on attending Stephen F. Austin State University where she will pursue her love of art.

While all five students have creative talent in common, they are also students of art teacher David Mason at Mansfield's Legacy High School.  In addition to the U.S. Savings Bonds, the winners are featured in the Foundation’s monthly newsletter and on the website, www.gossmichaelfoundation.org.

The Goss-Michael Foundation was founded by George Michael and Kenny Goss in June 2007. The Foundation offers the public a rotating schedule of exhibitions derived from Goss and Michael’s private collection of British contemporary art as well as other institutions. These exhibitions serve as a challenge to preconceived art notions and strive to set a new standard in artistic awareness by providing visitors with fresh and fascinating art experiences.
