Red Space is an apartment gallery in Austin, TX. Red Space seeks to diversify the Austin art scene by focusing on the work of emerging artists and encouraging challenging new work in a non-traditional setting. Red Space is devoted to showing artists exploring experimental methods, high concept, as well as dynamic traditional work.

Propose a solo or group exhibition at Red Space:

Please email your CV, artist’s statement, and proposal along with 5-10 images that clearly represent your work as a whole. Be sure to include your contact information (if you have a website where your work and CV can be viewed, a link will suffice instead of emailing your information and images.) All documents and images must be attachments, send to redspaceaustin@gmail.com Artists selected for exhibition will be chosen by Caitlin G. McCollom unless there is a juried exhibition or guest curator.

The space is 10 feet by 10 feet (a cube) with a sliding door closet on one wall and a small 3×4 window on the opposite wall of the closet. We can put up auxiliary walls if you need the closet and window covered. The ceiling is 8 feet high. The floor is wood laminate.

Proposal format:

Your proposal should briefly detail what your exhibition would be, including the medium of your work, and any special circumstances (for example, if your work requires a lot of technology, is extremely messy, loud, or bloody I need to know.) Your proposal should also include a concise concept statement.

Call to Artists Art in Public Places Austin Texas

The City of Austin’s Art in Public Places program has released a new Call to Artists for artists living or working in Texas (complete details can be found on the AIPP website), for the Asian American Resource Center.  

Please come to the Artist Information Meeting on Thursday, August 11, at 6 pm at Cultural Arts Division offices, 201 E. Second Street, Austin, TX. Park in the Austin Convention Center garage at Second and Brazos and we will validate your parking.  Map Attached.

Budget: $ 72,000 inclusive of design, fabrication and installation. 
Deadline: Submit your qualifications by 9/12 at 5 p.m.

Partial Description: The City of Austin Art in Public Places (AIPP) program of the Cultural Arts Division, Economic Growth & Redevelopment Services Office seeks to commission a professional visual artist /artist team to design, fabricate and install an exterior work of art that will contribute to the new Asian American Resource Center, being constructed at the intersection of Cameron Road and U.S. Highway 183. The goal of the public art is to showcase a work of contemporary public art that honors the cultural heritage and traditional values of Austin’s highly diverse Asian American community. The City of Austin’s Art in Public Places program has released a new Call to Artists for artists living or working in Texas (complete details can be found on the AIPP website), for Bartholomew Municipal Pool.

Local Residency Program Taking Submissions for 2012

AUSTIN, TX – The Serie Project is accepting applications. The organization offers a nonprofit Artist in Residence (AIR) program, with the mission to promote Latino artists as well as to grant access to the serigraphy technique. The Serie Project hosts emerging and established professional artists who produce original works using any visual medium, are 18 years or older, and not currently enrolled in an educational institution. The organization strives for diversity; although it focuses on supporting Latino artists, a third of selected artists are of other ethnic backgrounds. A Master Printer is provided to guide resident artists through the printmaking process. The Serie Project has hosted more than 250 artists from the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and Spain since 1993.

Each artist will be given one to two weeks to produce one design and create up to 50 serigraph prints plus additional proofs, half of which the artist will keep. The Serie Project provides accommodations for resident artists, but cannot pay for travel expenses. Printing will take place at Coronado Studio in Austin, Texas. The Artist in Residence program will begin in January, and all prints must be completed by July.

The deadline for application is August 26, 2011. The review for selection will be held in September.

Call for Entries: Art that Tells a Story.  

Austin Art Connections, a new, centrally-located, in-house Austin gallery, announces a call to artists for an exhibition September 15-October 15.  We are looking for 2D work that creates mood, emotion, and tells a story in all media with the exception of photography and video. This can be anything from abstract to realistic and all styles in between. All work accepted will be exhibited in our gallery and on our website.  Work must be original and created within the last 2 years. Deadline July 10.  Must be 18 or older and a resident of Texas to submit.  4 images for $35.00.

Barton Springs Pool Budget: $ 26,500 inclusive of design, fabrication and installation.

Partial description: "City of Austin (...) seeks to commission a professional visual artist to create works of art to serve as seating strategies for the Barton Springs Pool Grounds Improvements Art in Public Places project. Carved Stone Presents the Sixth Annual Sculpture Challenge on Saturday, March 5, 2011 Dripping Springs Texas

Dripping Springs, Texas – February 9, 2011 – Sculptors, artists, and lovers of all things creative and inspiring will converge on Dripping Springs, Texas, on Saturday, March 5, from 10am – 5:30pm for Carved Stone’s Sixth Annual Sculpture Challenge. The festive annual event, which benefits PAWS Shelter and Humane Society, takes place on the charming grounds of Carved Stone, where attendees visit with and observe sculptors in their element while also enjoying live blues-infused music, unique food, including special treats from nationally acclaimed Onion Creek Kitchens, as well as cool and complimentary tastings courtesy Dripping Springs Vodka.

As a benefit for PAWS Shelter and Humane Society, admission to Sculpture Challenge is $10 per person with all ticket proceeds benefiting PAWS. Also, if you purchase one of the sculptures entered into the Sculpture Challenge, 20% of the sale proceeds will go to PAWS. 
Finally, for those who fancy themselves something of an art critic, attendees are invited to help determine the winner of Sculpture Challenge. All ballots must be marked by 4pm the day of the event. Sculpture Challenge has very professional sculptors but allows beginner level as well – you be the judge!

Austin Art Space Announces Call to Artists For 6th Annual 12 Buy 12 Holiday Art Show & Sale

October 20 Entry Deadline for Exhibit That Runs Nov. 16-Dec. 18, 2010

Austin Art Space Gallery and Studios officially opened submissions for the 6th Annual “12 Buy 12” Holiday Art Show & Sale. The show is one of three juried shows held each year at the gallery that have drawn entries from all over the U.S. and as far away as Europe, South Africa and New Zealand.
What can you create in a 12” x 12” contained format?  The gallery has presented an astounding array of imaginative and original art in that size over past five years from hundreds of different artists. This show originated at the gallery’s predecessor — Artspoken.

This show has grown to include international entries, but has stayed true to its founding vision:  the best and the brightest and most fun art for the holiday season. The show celebrates the 12^th month and the size must be 12”x12”.  Entries are open to both 2-D and 3-D artists.

The juror for this year is Carl McQueary. Carl is a knowledgeable collector, art scholar and life-long Texas historian.  Recognizing the importance of Texas Modern Art, he curates exhibits at the Austin Museum of Art, Laguna Gloria and others; expanding the knowledge, appreciation, and promotion of artists from early Texas Modernists to today’s artists.  He is also a writer and author of ‘Dining at the Governor’s Mansion.’
The popularity of the 12” x 12” format has led to many other 12” x 12” shows around town; which is great for artists.   Here is what to know about Austin Art Space show:

1. A respected impartial judge, Carl McQueary, juries it.  All work is not automatically accepted.
2. There is no set price limit on the art.  That is entirely up to the artist.
3. Art Space does not take commission.  Really.  When a piece sells, the artist keeps 100% of the sale price.
4. The show is solely about the art and the artists.
5. For those artists accepted in the show – Austin Art Space notifies local newspapers from their hometowns. Austin Art Space helps promote artists’ success.

Valerie Walden, the manager of the Austin Art Space collective observed, “The ‘12buy12’ show is our longest-running, and has traditionally been our most popular exhibit. Last year, nearly 400 people attended the opening reception to view 89 works by 46 different artists. The Austin Museum of Art is taking submissions for the fourth edition of the triennial exhibition "New Art in Austin," to go on view Feb. 26-May 22, 2011. Emerging and lesser-known artists from Central Texas – defined as living within 50 miles of the Capitol – are invited to submit five digital images of their work in any medium, with an artist statement/bio, by July 29.

AMOA assistant curator Andrea Mellard will curate, with support from Kate Bonansinga, gallery director of the Rubin Center for the Visual Arts, and Toby Kamps, senior curator at the Contemporary Art Museum Houston.

Artist Opportunity – Call to Entry – Green Artworks for Exhibit at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Austin

for exhibit at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

AUSTIN, TEXAS – The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is seeking artwork for loan to an upcoming exhibit titled,  Green Art in Austin.  Artwork selected shall use a media primarily of recycled materials or utilize means and techniques utilizing energy saving methods. Artwork should be three dimensional in nature and  may incorporate visual themes symbolizing  eco-friendly living.  All entries must be submitted no later than August 15 , 2010.   Artists will be informed if their works are selected for display shortly thereafter.  Please send a self addressed stamped envelope if you want any submission material returned.

Artwork must be appropriate for a general audience of air travelers to view and also fit into airport concourse display cases with an interior case dimension measuring 14” wide x 16” deep and  48” tall.  Maximum weight of each piece shall not exceed 30 lbs.

The term of the artwork exhibition is scheduled to run from October 28, 2010 through January 28, 2011.  There is no financial compensation to the artist or artwork team for the artwork displayed in the exhibit.  However,  the artwork will be on view in an airport currently serving 23,000 passengers daily.  The airport concourse display cases are located in the area of the airport past security checkpoints accessible to ticketed passengers only.

Artwork selected to display in the Green Art in Austin exhibit will be fully insured from loss and casualty during the period it is on loan to the airport.  Selected Artists or their agent will work closely with the airport exhibit coordinator to arrange safe and smooth installation of the artwork in the exhibit cases.  Artists or their agents  shall be responsible for delivering the artwork to the airport and picking it up at the end of the display term.  All graphic placards with contact information, artists statement and other didactic information shall be the responsibility of the Airport to produce.  Artists or artwork teams may consider as many as four individual pieces to display.

Artists interested in loaning their “green art” to the airport for display may submit an e-mail or a CDROM with a brief note of interest and description of the artwork or process along with no more than two JPEG images of each piece measuring 1024 x 1024  pixels.
