December 4, 2010-January 22, 2011 (The Bath House will be closed from December 24 to January 3) Opening Reception: Saturday, December 4, 2010 (7-9 PM). Free and open to the public. More than 25 years ago a group of women met monthly in the Champaign-Urbana, Illinois area, bonded by their common love for the arts. The group included a printmaker, five painters, and a poet. They would discuss everything—life, family and, above all, art. Over the years most of them moved to other parts of the country but they continued to keep in touch by phone or mail. Then, about four years ago, five of them decided that it might be an interesting idea to do collaborative collages as a way of keeping in touch. One woman would start one and then mail it on, and so forth. After it had gone around it might be still mailed around again until someone decided that it was done. There usually are always a number of them in circulation. Each woman worked alone on the collages with a rare exception when one was visiting another woman. This exhibition presents some of those collaborative collages, which represent the vibrant dialogue of art brought about by the close relationship of these artists, which, to this day, withstands the test of time. The exhibition includes photographs by Ro Pottorff, poetry by Jane Toby, and paintings by Char Brady, Elva Stewart, and Susan Lecky, a Dallas artist who in addition to her participation in the creation of the collaborative collages, will also present two new paintings as part of her new series “Memories.” |
