Artist Interview: Scott Knecht


What is your name: Scott Knecht

Do you have a formal art education or are you a self taught artist: Self taught

What is the style of your pieces: mixed, inkworks and sculpture using alot of natural materials

What is the medium in which you work: wood,stone and metal with ink

What started you on your path as an artist: I have always wanted to pursue art in some form. I have gotten more serious and determined in the last few years in focus and medium.

What is one of the most important things that art has brought to your life: A sense of direction and purpose.

What is your favorite genre of art besides the one you work in: collage and painting

Do you have art showings, and if so what are they typically like: We have group shows at the gallery I am with that start every 6 weeks and I have been doing some arts festivals, I prefer the festivals because of the wide range of people you get to meet.

Do you have a certain set of clothes you make art in: Anything old that I can cover in saw dust but that does not always work out.

What has been the most frustrating part of being an artist? Empty talk that goes nowhere and not enough time to work.

What is your favorite sandwich of all time: A good Philly Cheesesteak.

Has this year brought about any changes in your work, and if so what are they: I have put alot of ideas in the book for later this year and the work will be larger and more complex

Who is your favorite artist alive or dead: It would be hard to pick just one but dead would be Dali and living would be Gregory Brotherton.

What is the most moving piece of artwork that you have seen in person: "She is Gone" an oil painting by Stephanie Kolpy

Do you have any animals, and what do they think of your work: I have to be careful, we have a dog who chews up pens and brushes and a cat who climbs everything. They think about destroying my work.

Do you have any upcoming exhibitions you would like to share with us: There is a new show starting at the Center Gallery 1st week of July ( snca.org ) and I have only planned one thing for the Fall so far. I am trying to work in the Studio as much as possible to prepare for the Winter.
