Baton Rouge Gallery is proud to announce it is now accepting submissions for the 2011 Flatscape Video Art Series, a juried two-night exhibition of the very best in video art from around the country. This video art showcase will take place over two nights (February 18 and 19, 2011) and will include numerous works of original video art never before seen inside the state of Louisiana.
Since its inception, Baton Rouge Gallery's Flatscape Video Art Series has featured the work of some of the biggest names in video art history, shedding light on this exciting though often ignored genre of artistic exploration. However, with the 2011 installment, the gallery will turn its attention to the cutting edge of this frontier by inviting artists from across the United States to enter work that will not only give Flatscape attendees insight into what video art is, but where it - as a medium - is going.
All video works must be no longer than 15 minutes in duration and can touch on any themes the artist wishes to explore. Those interested in submitting work for consideration by the 2011 Flatscape Video Art Series Juror can find guidelines and submission instructions at batonrougegallery.org/pages/flatscapes.html. The deadline for entries is Tuesday, November 23, 2010.
Serving as juror for the 2011 Flatscape Video Art Series is Kelli Scott Kelley. A Baton Rouge Gallery Artist Member since 2000, Kelley received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Kelley's provocative and message-laden work blurs the line between human and animal. The inspiration for much of her work stemmed from the reading of children's books and fables to her son. Kelley works in painting, sculpture, printmaking, video and performance. Since moving back to her hometown of Baton Rouge, Kelley has been teaching art at Louisiana State University, where she is now an Associate Professor of Painting. Kelley has shown her work across the country including Hooks Epstein Gallery (Houston, TX), Taylor Bercier Gallery (New Orleans, LA) and the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (Boulder, CO).
