(TYLER, TX) January 4, 2011 – This Saturday, January 8, the Tyler Museum of Art invites visitors to enjoy a free Family Day event from 2-4 p.m. in the TMA classroom. Children can participate in a variety of art activities, enjoy light refreshments, and discover the Museum’s latest exhibition, “Studiously Slangy and Bohemian,” The Tile Club – Artists of America’s Aesthetic Movement from the Graham Williford Collection, all free of charge. Family Days are offered on the second Saturday of every month.
The artists whose works are shown in this exhibition formed a group called the Tile Club that was originally dedicated to painting decorative tiles. Two of these rare, namesake tiles are on view at the Museum, and Family Day participants will be invited to follow in the footsteps of Tile Club artists by painting their very own tiles. The education staff at TMA has also created an art activity that will teach children the basics of creating mosaic artworks. Parents are invited to sit in and enjoy the artistic process alongside their children and are encouraged to explore the exhibition in addition to enjoying these Family Day art activities.
Over 80 paintings, sculptures, and prints are on view in this exhibition, and children and adults alike are sure to be captivated by the antics of the Tile Club artists. Admission to “Studiously Slangy and Bohemian,” The Tile Club–Artists of America’s Aesthetic Movement from the Graham Williford Collection is free. The exhibition is presented with support from the Jean and Graham Devoe Williford Charitable Trust. Collectors’ Circle Sponsors are Otis and Claudia Carroll, Steve and June Hillis, Amy and Vernon Faulconer, and Mrs. Watson Simons.
