Norwood Flynn Gallery is pleased to showcase “Road Trip,” new work by Charlotte Seifert. In this vibrant new body of work, Charlotte continues her exploration of painting as a way of remembering. Invoking landscapes from her early paintings, but in a fresh, more complex way, she continues to draw the viewer into the nature of paint, memory, and experience. The show continues through March 5, 2011.
All shows are free and open to the public. The public may call 214-351-3318 or visit www.norwoodflynngallery.com for information.
Charlotte Seifert Artist Statement for “Road Trip.”
ROAD TRIP Over the past year I have taken several road trips to New Mexico and Arizona. The time spent in the car watching the landscape zoom by, as well as actually being in the landscape inspired me back to my love of land, sky and mountains. While working on the idea of road trips and fleeting images seen in motion, I realized that life is a big road trip. We are all passing through. And there are times when we try to stop the car and make our home at a lovely rest stop. But life has a way of moving, moving, moving on.
The image of feet appear in several pieces, representing the moving on. Dogs and birds also show up in the work as part of the imagery of flight and wandering. The brush strokes are often gestural and swirling as the wind.
