Norwood Flynn Gallery is pleased to showcase two installations by Kathy Lovas, a Dallas artist. “Friday Scribbles,” is a collection of embroidered drawings, based on a typology of scribbles that appeared in a column in the Village Voice. Like a photograph, they are a message without a code. “Ten Degrees of Separation,” is a random array of images of faces spread across a gallery wall. After several manipulations, the final images are at least ten degrees of separation from the originals, yet each retains recognizable features of a unique individual. Each asks the questions, “Where does identity reside? At what point is it lost?”
Kyle Hobratschk’s artwork was featured on the 2010 calendar for the Dallas Farmers Market. He is currently working on his BFA in painting at the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU.

Kyle Hobratschk Artist Statement: My work is drawing-based to better understand the structure of buildings and botanicals and their relation to space and one another’s form. I draw on location and from life, working within the realm of realism and using photographs for reference only when I cannot return to a site. I create images of subjects from both man-made and nature-made environments to define their construction and find shared qualities. The realism in my work is directly influenced by working from life, and maintaining a consciousness about the subjects’ relation to social contexts
Kyle Hobratschk is attending the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University for his BFA in painting, with an emphasis in printmaking. In addition to the SMU Dallas campus, Kyle studied at the SMU-in-Taos campus in summers 2008 and 2009 to work on location in northern New Mexico’s diverse landscape. He continues to draw and paint the saguaro and boulder-defined environment in his hometown Carefree, Arizona.
